"THE BACKWATERS"

LAKE HARDING

More than 60 years ago President Franklin Roosevelt took rest and physical therapy surrounded by the pine forests of west central Georgia. Today, Georgia Power parks in the Bartlett's Ferry Recreation Area give vacationers the opportunity to enjoy that tranquil setting. Lake Harding and other reservoirs along a 35 mile section of the Chattahoochee River offer many public recreation opportunities, including boating, skiing, fishing, swimming, sailing, camping and picnicking.

The Chattahoochee River and
Lake Harding form the western border of Harris County, providing ample opportunity for fishing, swimming, boating and other outdoor activities.  Lake Harding, a 5,850 acre Georgia Power reservoir, which has 156 miles of shoreline on the Chattahoochee River, draws crowds of boaters and skiers during the summer and offers excellent fishing throughout the whole year.

Blanton Creek Park provides a quiet, beautiful site for campers.

Bartlett's Ferry is a short drive north of Columbus; Lake Harding spans 5,850 acres and spreads along a 13-mile section of the portion of the Chattahoochee River that separates Georgia and Alabama. The lake is impounded by Bartlett's Ferry Dam. The main Georgia Power recreation area on the Georgia side of the lake is Blanton Creek Park. Shaded by tall stately pines, the full-service campground includes picnic areas, pavilions, a boat ramp and a playground. On the Alabama side of the reservoir are Chattahoochee Valley Park and Po-Boy Landing which offer boat launching and day use.
